Lord of My Domain

There are going to be some changes around here in 2013, even though I know as well as the next guy that change is bad.

First and foremost, if everything works as intended, your browser’s address bar should show you to now be among the pages fishinabarrelpond.com instead of the address we formerly used. In theory, the old ghoti62.wordpress.com will still get you here, but it involves something called a “redirect” and it is my understanding that this redirect is accomplished using monkeys. Monkeys being monkeys, not all devices or browsers may be able to recognize this redirect, so some of you may need/want to re-set something in order to always find your way back to fishinabarrelpond.com.

Secondly, I must apologize to anyone who visited on Sunday and found the pages kept changing. It was just Quill Gordon, pretending he knew what he was doing, trying out different layouts and themes to spiffy up the joint for the New Year. Must have tried a hundred variations but, with the exception of adding a background color, everything is pretty much the same as it always was, just the way we like it. For now.

Happy New Year to all. Make the most of 2013.

  1. The monkeys did their job; an auspicious start for the new year. Lookin’ forward to what else Quill has in store for us in 2013.

    Happy New Year!

  2. I wish I would have caught some of the experiments, those are fun to watch sometimes. I changed mine once, got mercilessly ridiculed and never tried again.

One of the benefits of going from from wordpress.com to your own domain and wordpress is that it’s a pretty simple database update. Take your time, follow the instructions and you’re golden.

I have to fill in all the details below, which is annoying, but I’ll get over it. Happy New Year sir and I wish someone would send some snow my way. All around me, but not on me. At least it would then look like winter other than just a bunch of dead stuff.

    • Yeah, the whole Hello Kitty thing was a bit much, probably.

I can box up some snow and send it your way if you’d like. The dooryard is getting piled high around the edges already and we’ve got a good Fortress of Solitude look going on.

  3. Back in August of 2011 I was forced to change my blog. Someone e-mailed me and said, “There’s something wrong with your blog.” I had been inactive on it for a couple weeks, and in the meantime, WordPress discontinued the theme I had been using and they just threw something else in. Dark brown background with black print — try reading that! So when I tackled that job, I was “lost” in the electronic jungle of trying to decipher all the widgets, gidgets, gadgets, tabs, bars, drop-downs, etc. In the end it was a good thing, because I was forced to learn and made some improvements. Nice to see that you had some fun playing around with it Quill, he he,he!

    • Who would have thought, back in the mid to late 20th Century, that any of us would be doing this stuff? It’s nearly second nature to the new generations but I remember when computers took up entire buildings and couldn’t do nearly what this thing in my lap can. It is fun, though.

Happy New Year. I hope you’re feeling better.

  4. Yeah for monkeys…just don’t take them fishing with you.

  5. Monkeys can be handy, as long as they don’t fly and come with a witch. Anyhow…looks great, Quill. Happy New Year!

    • I heard a horrible noise one night a couple of years ago and ran out to see what it was. Something was screeching in the driveway, but I couldn’t see what it was, so I stepped closer and the screeching moved up into a tree. Then it flew just over my head and across the road, screeching the whole time. Flying monkeys! was my first thought, which shows what an influence that movie had.

Turns out to have been a rabbit doing the screeching, and it only seemed to be flying because it was being carried off by an owl, but it sure sounded like flying monkeys to me.

  6. Quill, got everything right from my end of it, Changes are nice once in awhile. Even if it just makes you feel better, it was worth it. Looking for a great year for you here at Fish In The Barrel Pond.

  7. Fortunately, I live in a place where no one sees some of the things I do, just to make me feel better!
